Vader Takes Thi Xon Yimmon from the Far Ranger
The Last JediThe seizure of Thi Xon Yimmon from the Far Ranger turns the ship’s desperate collapse into a personal defeat for Jax Pavan: Darth Vader takes the Whiplash leader from him despite Jax’s immediate resistance. The capture unfolds amid the deaths and wreckage left by the confrontation, and ends with Vader’s party gone, Yimmon missing, and the ship still drifting toward oblivion.
Causes and Setting
The encounter takes place aboard the Far Ranger as its situation worsens. Laranth Tarak has disabled the stasis field, but she has paid for that act with her life. The ship is drifting into the matter stream between the stars, and its A-grav field flickers. Vader frames these conditions as losses Jax must face: first the death of his companion, then the prospect of losing the ship. His declaration that he has one more thing to take makes the danger immediate and deliberately personal.
The confrontation follows the moment when Laranth gives her soul back to the Force. Jax lays her broken body gently on the deck and rises; the change from grief-struck stillness to armed action happens without a pause for explanation. His blue-green lightsaber lights the smoky corridor as he moves aft. There, Vader blocks the escape of Yimmon and I-Five, flanked by four stormtroopers. The narrow passage brings the three opposing forces together: Vader and his troops control the route, while Jax and his companions face them aboard a failing ship.
The Confrontation
Vader draws his own lightsaber and advances toward Jax and the others. Its red light spills across the bulkheads, sharply distinct from the blue-green light of Jax’s weapon. The ship shifts again as the A-grav field flickers. A stormtrooper hurries to Vader’s side, gestures upward, and speaks too quietly for Den Dhur to hear. Vader responds with a sharp hand motion, and the stormtroopers turn together to level their weapons at Jax. The encounter is not only a duel between two lightsaber-wielders: Vader’s soldiers make the corridor a coordinated threat, while the failing ship destabilizes the ground on which both sides act.
When a trooper invokes the Emperor’s orders, Vader silences him with a raised, clenched hand. He says he knows the orders and will execute them in his own fashion. The exchange reveals a tension within the Imperial command structure, but Vader does not let it delay him. Instead, he identifies his intended prize as the thing Jax has guarded for months, then turns his attention to Yimmon. The wording makes the seizure an attack on Jax through someone he has protected, even though the precise nature of the thing Vader means to take remains unstated in this scene.
Yimmon’s Capture
Vader reaches toward Yimmon with his free hand and makes a grasping motion. Yimmon’s eyes roll back, and he slumps against the bulkhead; Vader arrests his fall before two stormtroopers move in to lift him by the arms. The sequence gives Vader direct control over the captive’s body, then turns that control into a practical extraction carried out by his soldiers. Yimmon, identified as the Whiplash leader, is taken without being shown able to resist.
Jax and I-Five leap at the same moment. Jax’s lightsaber spins as the stormtroopers fire, filling the passage with a burst of hard, particulate light. Den Dhur has no time to shield his eyes and is completely blinded. When he can see again, Jax remains in the center of the corridor with his lightsaber raised defensively, surrounded by debris. Vader and the stormtroopers have vanished with Yimmon. The account does not show the precise means by which they escape or establish whether the attackers have been injured; it records the failed counterattack through the abrupt change in what Den can see.
Consequences and Significance
The capture leaves several losses concentrated in one confined space. The Far Ranger is dead in space and drifting toward oblivion; Laranth’s body remains broken on the deck; Yimmon is in Vader’s hands. Den then nearly trips over I-Five’s battered, blackened head. The scene presents the droid’s apparent destruction as another immediate consequence of the assault, while leaving its ultimate condition unresolved here. Jax’s survival and defensive stance do not amount to a rescue: after the flash, the person he tried to protect is gone.
The event’s decisive reversal is therefore not simply that Vader overpowers an opposing force. Jax moves from the intimate act of laying Laranth down to an armed attempt to stop Vader, but neither his readiness nor I-Five’s synchronized leap prevents Yimmon’s removal. Vader’s stated intention to take what Jax has guarded links the capture to Jax’s longer conflict with him, while the actual outcome compounds personal grief with strategic loss. The ship’s failing systems, the dead companion, the scattered debris, and the vanished captive leave the encounter without a victory for Jax: only the immediate fact of his survival and the unresolved prospect of what Vader will do with Yimmon.
